current projects in uganda
covid-19 reliefWe are raising funds through our COVID-19 relief funding stream to support families hardly hit by the closure of ecotourism businesses in the Bwindi-Mgahinga Gorilla National Park area in southwestern Uganda. The funds raised will help finance alternative livelihoods activities for tour guides, porters, lodge employees, and women handicraft groups. The initiatives will generate alternative revenue streams and have a direct impact on wildlife conservation, especially the endangered mountain gorillas..

development of cbt sitesPlanet Bridges Foundation is supporting the development of community-owned eco-tourism enterprises in the Bwindi-Mgahinga Gorilla National Park area of southwestern Uganda. The goal of the project is to develop sustainable alternative tourist activities beyond the favorite gorilla trekking activity. These products include coffee farms, cultural sites, and food tours. The project will have a direct impact on the education and livelihoods of the local community as well as wildlife conservation, especially the mountain gorillas in Bwindi National Park.

domestic tourismIn partnership with Mgahinga Community Development Organization (MCDO), Planet Bridges Foundation is developing a post-COVID marketing strategy for the two lodges managed by MCDO. These are Amajambere Community Camp and Mutanda Eco Community. The marketing strategy is projected to increase guest numbers and revenues, which will ultimately improve livelihoods, education opportunities, and wildlife conservation in both Bwindi and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks.
